Website Promotion Strategies - Did ChatGPT get it right?

Chat GPT - Did if offer good advice "Website promotion"

Philip did a search on chat GPT (openai) and posed the following question - What is the best way to promote my website? Below are the 9 answers it gave with feedback from Philip about his own personal experiences using the same promotional techniques.

Chat GPT Answers to the question - Best Website Promotion Strategies:

1. Create Quality Content: Quality content is essential for creating an effective online presence. The content should be useful, relevant, interesting, informative and engaging.

Philips experience:

Maybe this is not my best example for a website promotion campaign but for my immigration business, I created videos and went into great detail about how to apply for the UK visa. In other words, they could do it all themselves without the need of my services, all the information was there without any details being kept back. These videos, although only taking a couple of hours to make and publish, generated a huge amount of traffic for my website which the search engines picked up on. The fact that my website was becoming popular, retention and repeat visitors automatically moved me up the rankings. The search engines loved it. 2. Utilizing Social Media: Social media is an effective way to reach a much wider audience and build relationships with potential customers/clients.

Philips experience:

My strategy here was simply post and ask. I asked all my friends on facebook/instagram etc for positive/negative feedback about my site, like and share. For my birthday, I asked my social media friends not for gifts (not that they would have given) but for them to repost my post about my new website. These are simple techniques to get started 'ASK"
3. Invest in paid Advertising: Paid advertising can be an effective way to get your website noticed and increase traffic.

Philips experience:

The reason I started my own website promotion push was that I was tired of paying huge fees to the search engines to send me traffic, it can be crazy expensive especially if your website is poorly designed or you offer a product or service that no one wants. What I found the best strategy was create a video on youtube, have my website address clearly visible in the video and promote it on facebook. I killed two birds with one stone, I took traffic from facebook to youtube (Youtube loved me and ranked my videos higher) giving my videos much more traffic on both platforms and a lot more visitors to my website. So to get that kickstart, it is worth spending a very small amount. My biggest mistake was being lazy and throwing huge sums at cost per click without having any SEO experience.

4. Network with Influencers: Networking with influencers can help you reach a larger audience and get more exposure for your website.

Philips experience:

It does bring me a lot of business, again for my visa business but it also gives me a lot of headaches. Often the message I was trying to get across was lost, the influencers wanted to be more like an visa agency and retain the client. I will carry on using influencers as it was extremely effective but set the ground rules before working with them again, in the future. In brief, it depends on the type of business you are engaged in and having clear and precise instructions about what they say in their bloggs, videos etc. 5. Optimize for Search Engines: Optimizing your website for search engines can help you rank higher in the search engine results pages (SERPs).

Philips experience:

Traditional methods of SEO, having a full time person writing content and articles didn't work for me. A simple algorithm change about quality of content over volume of content instantly put me back down the rankings. To put things in perspective, I paid 800 pounds per month for 18 months and I was still nowhere to be seen on a google search for my keywords. This was a very big mistake for me.

6. Create a Responsive Design: A responsive design ensures that your website looks good and functions properly on all devices, including mobile.

Philips experience:

Design, it is very important. I lost huge sums paying cost per click when people were using mobile devices. The website looked terrible albeit great on a desktop, 45% of my traffic was gone in the wind. 7. Utilize Email Marketing: Email marketing is a great way to stay in touch with your customers and build relationships.

Philips experience:

Great for retaining clients, a simple email shows you care. Useless and probably counter productive for finding new clients.

8. Leverage Video Marketing: Video is a powerful medium for connecting with your audience and can help you reach a wider audience.

Philips experience:

My biggest regret was that I never used video marketing earlier. Using videos cut my advertising budget by 95%. Posting useful, informative videos drove a huge number of eyeballs to my website. Video content probably saved my business, it really was that effective.
9. Monitor and Analyze Your Results: Monitor the results of your online marketing efforts and use the data to make improvements.

Philips experience:

It is important but I found myself constantly looking at the stats to see how many visitors I had. It was extremely time consuming and became very addictive. I even found myself waking up in the middle of the night to check the amount of time and number of eyeballs spent on my sites and youtube channels. On the flip side it did help me identify which subject matters were interesting and engaging to my audience so that I could produce more of the same.

10. Ask (the best advice I was ever given). Do not be afraid to ask for your friends or colleagues to watch, like and leave a comment.

Philips experience:

As I pointed out earlier, always ask. As the saying goes, if you never ask, you never get. I always ask for likes, for comments, for people to visit my sites, opinions, constructive advice and very importantly, HELP.

In brief, I am not 100% sure what made some of my sites and social media accounts more popular than others but I believe all of the points raised by CHAT GPT have their merits and the advice it gave would have been useful when I first got started. What is scary, the technology is only going to get so much better and eventually put people like me out of a job.

Website promotion - how to get higher in the search engine rankings. Philip also mentions his biggest mistake.

You just finished building and published your website - now what! Well, it is likely that your web site after a few days will be ranked on the search engines platforms near the bottom at around 76211026. In other words it is unlikely that anyone will ever find your site over the next century.

Please bear in mind, search engines often change the rules of the game (for example, change their algorithms) so what is good advice today might be outdated tomorrow. With the launch of openai technology. Chat GPT (Generative Pre-training Transformer), it is more than just a chat bot tool. It is a generative language program. The launch of this new technology is also going to severely disrupt the status quo and the way we implement search engine optimisation strategies. Rumor has it, not to get left behind, google service will be launching their own version of an AI chat bot in the nearest future.

So, my biggest mistake was not implementing videos in my marketing mix from day one. Those that got in at the beginning are still reaping the benefits of being first. I will not make the same mistake with openai, i am a believer.

Philips conclusion.

Despite all the hype, I give it 5 stars. It might not be perfect at the moment but as with all new technologies, it will improve over time. You either embrace it or get left behind. If you snooze, you will lose, get on the bandwagon now and enjoy the ride. What skype did to traditional telecom companies, this chat bot will do to search engines platforms.
